Governor Siminalayi Fubara arrived at the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex on Wednesday to find the entrance gate locked. Security personnel had secured the gates upon his arrival, citing a lack of official communication from the governor to the Assembly.

Fubara clarified that he had informed Speaker Martins Amaewhule in advance through a letter and attempted to contact him by phone since Tuesday. The incident follows Fubara’s directive to implement the Supreme Court’s February 28, 2025, judgment, which includes organizing a fresh local government election in the state, set for August 9, 2025.

Additionally, on March 7, 2025, the Secretary to the State Government, Tammy Danagogo, had sent a letter inviting lawmakers for a meeting on March 10 to discuss the 2025 budget and peace talks.
