Sirika, the former aviation minister, along with his daughter, Fatima, were granted bail by a Federal Capital Territory High Court in the sum of N100 million each. They were arraigned before Justice Sylvanus Oriji of the FCT High Court on allegations of abusing office, totaling N2.7 billion. The court mandated two sureties with landed properties in Abuja, who must be responsible citizens and depose to an affidavit of means. Travel abroad is restricted without court permission, and failure to meet bail conditions may lead to remand in prison.
Daily Review Online had detailed the EFCC’s arrest of Sirika in April, where he was detained for several days. He faced questioning regarding the failed Nigeria Air project, alleged conspiracy, embezzlement of public funds, and contract inflation during his tenure as aviation minister. Sirika, who served under former President Muhammadu Buhari, has had a diverse political career, previously serving as a member of the House of Representatives and later as a senator representing Katsina North Senatorial District under the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) platform in 2011.
