A Dei-Dei Area Court in Abuja, on Tuesday, ordered that a task force officer, Iliyasu Abdullahi, be remanded in a correctional centre for allegedly stealing a car key and eight pairs of trousers.

The police charged Mr Abdullahi, 25, who lives in Zuba Church Road Abuja, with criminal conspiracy, housebreaking and theft.

The judge, Saminu Suleiman, ordered that the defendant be remanded in the Nigerian Correctional Service facility in Suleja until Aug.15 after they pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Chinedu Ogada, said the complainant, Chibuike Egbornuba of Zuba Abuja, reported the case at the Zuba Police Station, June 28.

The prosecutor said that on the same date, at about 2:30 a.m., the defendant and three others, now at large, criminally conspired and broke into the complainant’s house.

He said that the defendant conspired with his friends and made away with the complainant’s car key, eight pairs of trousers, 20 pairs of shirts, and Mp3 radio, whose value is yet unknown.

According to the prosecutor, during police investigation, one of the stolen shirts was recovered from the defendant but he could not give a satisfactory account of himself.

He said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 97, 354 and 288 of the Penal Code.
