Cristiano Ronaldo may be unhappy about playing in the Europa League, but he still had the entire crowd celebrating his first goal in the competition.
The Portuguese superstar scored Manchester United’s second goal of the match away at FC Sheriff Tiraspol, which saw the home crowd join in his iconic ‘SIU’ celebration.
Ronaldo might want to be in the Champions League but the home crowds effort still provoked a smile
Jadon Sancho scored the opening goal as Man United ran out comfortable 2-0 winners in Moldova.
Ronaldo had a turbulent summer transfer window in which his agent held talks with Chelsea and Bayern Munich in an attempt to secure a Champions League return, but none of these efforts came to fruition.
Instead, Ronaldo ended up staying at Old Trafford, and is now playing in the Europa League for the first time, ending a 19-year stretch in which he only played in Europe’s top tier.
That didn’t stop the 37-year-old adding to his astonishing goalscoring record though, returning to the line-up against Sheriff to score his 699th career goal from the penalty spot.
And despite his attempts to get away from the Europa League, Ronaldo still celebrated his first goal of the season in trademark fashion with a run, jump, twist and landing, followed by a shout of ‘SIU’.
And despite the game being away from Old Trafford, the home crowd still joined in, showing the legends impact is far from tarnished despite his lack of game time this season.
Ronaldo was a key fixture in United’s opening losses of the season against Brighton and Brentford.
