Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Kaduna State on has called on drivers to be security conscious while driving.
The Assitant Corps Marshal, Kaduna Zone, Mr Charles Theophilus, made the call in Kaduna at the beginning of “Operation Shield” along Kaduna-Abuja dual carriage way.
He said the programme would focus on over-loading, over-speeding and seat-belt violation and the use of phones while driving, to control rate of accidents.
Theophilus said a unit had been set up at Katari, on Kaduna-Abuja high way, for people to report cases of accidents.
“We can control accidents if drivers will guard against reckless driving and obey road regulations.”
He advised Nigerians to be careful and observant while driving, adding: “Watch your drivers and give them necessary advice while driving.”
He said that the exercise would end on Aug. 24.
The Vice Chairman, Nigerian Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Umar Kalibo, said the union would meet with its members in various motor parks on the matter.
