President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, to present an account of his administration’s economic reforms and their impact on Nigerians.
Tinubu, in a message to Nigerians on Wednesday, said the scorecard would highlight what the reforms had achieved, the costs associated with them and the greater economic challenges the government believed it had prevented.
The President said the reforms, which began in 2023, were designed to build a stronger economy and create a better future for Nigerians.
“When we began this journey of reform in 2023, I promised that the difficult decisions we were making would serve the purpose of building an economy that works better for you and a country that is stronger for our children,” Tinubu said.
According to him, the Reforms Scorecard would provide Nigerians with details of the government’s economic decisions and their outcomes.
“Today, your government presents The Reforms Scorecard. It sets out what our reforms have achieved, what they have cost us, and the greater costs and harms we have prevented by acting when we did,” he said.
Tinubu said he had directed Oyedele to explain the figures and provide Nigerians with information on the choices made by the administration, the progress recorded so far and areas where more work remained to be done.
The President stressed that Nigerians deserved transparency on the effects of the reforms on their daily lives, families and businesses.
“You deserve to see the numbers. You deserve to know what has changed and what these reforms mean for you, your family, your business and our country,” he said.
Tinubu described the initiative as an account of his administration’s stewardship to Nigerians.
“This is your government. This is your country. This is our account to you,” the President added.
He urged Nigerians to watch the Reforms Scorecard livestream on the official YouTube channel of the State House.
