As political conversations ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to gather momentum, one name that is increasingly resonating beyond the campaign arena is that of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) Senatorial Candidate for Okigwe Zone (Imo North Senatorial District), Attorney Dr. Charles Chibuike Onyirimba. While political endorsements often dominate election seasons, Onyirimba’s growing reputation is being shaped by something far more enduring; recognition for service to humanity.
That reputation received another significant boost when the respected legal practitioner and philanthropist was honoured with the Community Leadership Award at the 2026 Annual Conference jointly organised by the Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria (ACSPN), Imo State Chapter, and the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Imo State Council.
The colourful conference, held on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at the Imo State University Auditorium, Owerri, brought together an impressive assembly of professors, communication experts, journalists, media practitioners, researchers, students, public officials and other distinguished personalities committed to advancing professionalism and national development.
More than an award ceremony, the event served as an intellectual gathering where leading scholars examined the critical role of communication in strengthening democracy.
The conference revolved around the thought-provoking theme, “Mobilizing Scholars and Professionals as Strategic Communicators for Election Transparency,” highlighting the need for credible communication as Nigeria approaches another electoral cycle.
Scholarly presentations added depth to the conference, with the keynote lecture delivered by Prof. O.S.T. Ezechukwunyere Nwebo, while Prof. K.O. Nworgu presented the second lead paper. The conference was chaired by Prof. B.E.B. Woke, with the Vice-Chancellor of Imo State University, Prof. Uchefula Ugonna Chukwumaeze, serving as Chief Host.
Among other notable dignitaries present were the Deputy Governor of Imo State, Her Excellency Lady Chinyere Ekomaru; Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Imo State Council, Comrade Ifeanyi Nwanguma; Coordinator of ACSPN, Imo State Chapter, Dr. (Mrs.) Adeline Nkwam-Uwaoma; alongside eminent academics, journalists and communication professionals.
Although several distinguished Nigerians were honoured for their outstanding contributions to society, Onyirimba’s recognition stood out as another affirmation of his expanding influence in community development and humanitarian service.
Receiving the award through his representative, Chief J.O.J. Okafor, Attorney Dr. Onyirimba expressed deep appreciation to the organisers for considering him worthy of the honour. He described the recognition as both humbling and inspiring, pledging to remain steadfast in his commitment to selfless service.
He assured that, if entrusted with the mandate to represent Okigwe Zone in the Senate, he would dedicate himself to building a constituency driven by purposeful representation, sustainable development, youth empowerment, quality education, economic opportunities and robust human capital development.
Explaining the basis for the award, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Dr. Eregbu Sylvie Marie, disclosed that Onyirimba’s nomination originated from journalists who had consistently monitored and reported his humanitarian activities across communities.
According to her, his sustained philanthropic interventions, support for vulnerable groups, investment in people, and unwavering commitment to improving lives distinguished him as a worthy recipient of the Community Leadership Award.
She noted that the organisers were particularly impressed by his record of touching lives quietly yet consistently, describing his leadership style as one rooted in compassion, responsibility and service rather than publicity.
For many observers, the honour represents more than another plaque on the shelf. It reflects a growing public perception that leadership is increasingly being measured by tangible impact on people’s lives rather than political rhetoric alone.
The recognition also comes at a time when voters across Okigwe Zone are demanding leaders whose credentials extend beyond campaign promises to demonstrable records of community service and human development.
Other recipients of the Award of Excellence included Mr. Ikenna Kennedy Odoeme, HC Mike Duru Ejiogu, Hon. Humphrey Ikeaka, Hon. Anusiem Oji James, and High Chief Sir P.M.C. Okeke, all honoured for their respective contributions to societal development.
As the road to the 2027 elections unfolds, the latest recognition adds to the growing list of accolades surrounding Attorney Dr. Charles Chibuike Onyirimba, reinforcing a narrative that his public profile is being built not only on political ambition but also on a record of philanthropy, community leadership and a commitment to improving the lives of ordinary people.
For many in Okigwe Zone, the award is another reminder that the qualities expected of tomorrow’s leaders are often revealed long before ballots are cast.
No wonder Onyirimba was the main focus of guests at the event. Many testified of his sterling qualities. He was obviously the most popular awardee as students, professors, the media and several others declared that Onyirimba’s emergence as the next senator to represent Okigwe Zone in the National Assembly would pull the beleaguered zone out of pervading lacklustre representation over the years.
