A pro-democracy group, Ebonyi Citizens for Change, has condemned the attacks on the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike by
Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State.
The organisation described the attacks as unwarranted and an attempt to unnecessarily drag the Minister into Ebonyi politics.
The group in a statement by its Spokesman, Chukwuemeka Ukadike, said the comments made by the Governor are unnecessary, disrespectful, immature and tantamount to a call for arms against the FCT Minister.
Governor Nwifuru had, during a rally, alleged that the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, is planning to flip the state to the opposition PDP.
The Governor had alleged that Wike had said the Ebonyi State is his for the taking with the permission of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The pressure group with members in Nigeria and beyond said the Governor was merely expressing the fears of an impending loss at the upcoming general election in 2027.
Ukadike said that Nwifuru is agitated by his rejection by citizens of the State for his lack of performance.
He said that Wike is not from Ebonyi State and would not be voting there.
The group said that instead of owning up to his failure, Nwifuru is seeking a scapegoat to blame when he loses at the polls.
Ukadike said, “Nwifuru is panicking. He knows that if elections are to hold today, he would lose. So he is setting the stage and dragging the names of Wike and President Tinubu into the matter. How can Tinubu, who is the head of his party, dash the state to another party? It is inconceivable and illogical. In any case, Wike did not tell Nwifuru not to perform as a Governor with the over N500 billion he has received since he took over.
“In Ebonyi today, there are no physical manifestations of developments. Is that the fault of Wike? Nwifuru will lose the election to PDP because people are fed up with him. He has not achieved anything. So, instead of blaming President Tinubu, he should speak for himself.”
