EFCC declares ex-humanitarian minister Sadiya Farouq Wanted Over abuse of office, fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has declared former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Sadiya Umar Farouq, wanted over allegations of criminal conspiracy, abuse of office, and diversion of public funds.

The anti-graft agency published the notice on its official platform on Saturday, urging Nigerians with useful information about her whereabouts to contact the commission.

According to the EFCC, Farouq, 52, is from Zamfara State, with her last known address listed as EN 008, Okpo River, off Agulu Street, Maitama, Abuja.

In the notice signed by the EFCC Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, the commission stated that the former minister is being sought in connection with alleged financial crimes involving conspiracy, abuse of office, and diversion of public funds.

The agency advised anyone with relevant information to report to any of its offices nationwide, including those in Abuja, Lagos, Kano, Port Harcourt, Enugu, Kaduna, Maiduguri, Sokoto, Benin, Ilorin, Gombe, Uyo, Makurdi, and Ibadan. It also provided a contact phone number and email address for tips.

Farouq served as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari between 2019 and 2023.
