Chelsea’s struggles in the Premier League deepened on Monday as they fell to a 3–1 home defeat against Nottingham Forest, extending their losing streak to six matches. The result puts Forest in a strong position to retain their top-flight status for next season.
Taiwo Awoniyi wasted no time in making an impact, opening the scoring within two minutes with a powerful header past Robert Sánchez. The Nigerian forward continued to trouble Chelsea’s defence and won a penalty shortly after, which Igor Jesus converted with composure to double the visitors’ lead.
Chelsea had a chance to respond before halftime, but Cole Palmer missed from the penalty spot—only his second miss in the league—after Matz Sels produced a fine save.
Forest tightened their grip early in the second half when Awoniyi grabbed his second goal, finishing from close range after a precise assist from Morgan Gibbs-White. Despite a late moment of brilliance from João Pedro, who scored with an overhead kick, Chelsea were unable to mount a comeback.
The defeat highlights Chelsea’s ongoing struggles, while Nottingham Forest edge closer to Premier League survival with a crucial away victory.
