A chieftain of the Labour Party, Udonsi Kalu Eke, has called on residents of Abia State to take an active role in the electoral process by registering with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and obtaining their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

Eke, a former Minority Leader of the Ohafia Legislative Council (2004–2006), made the call during a chat with journalists in Lagos, where he stressed that increased civic participation remains critical to sustaining democratic gains and ensuring accountable leadership.

He urged Abians to rally behind the state governor, Alex Chioma Otti, whose administration he described as pragmatic and focused on delivering measurable development across the state.

According to Eke, Governor Otti’s leadership has ushered in a new wave of governance anchored on fiscal discipline, infrastructural renewal, and improved public service delivery. He noted that ongoing reforms in key sectors such as road construction, education, and healthcare are gradually repositioning Abia as a competitive and investment-friendly state.

“I stand solidly by Governor Otti and have extended my political experience, especially in Ohafia Local Government Area, to ensure that the governor’s structure, the Abia Arise Movement, is well-oiled and effective in spreading the good works of the administration to every nook and cranny of Ohafia,” Eke said.

He added that grassroots mobilisation remains essential in consolidating the gains of the current administration, emphasizing that informed and active voters are crucial to deepening democracy and sustaining development.

Eke further encouraged community leaders, youth groups, and other stakeholders to intensify awareness campaigns on voter registration and participation, noting that the future of Abia depends largely on the collective involvement of its people in the democratic process.
