Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has taken responsibility for his side’s FA Cup exit after a 2–1 defeat to Southampton, urging his players to reflect and respond strongly for the remainder of the season.

The loss ends Arsenal’s hopes of winning three trophies this campaign, just weeks after their Carabao Cup final defeat. Goals from Ross Stewart and Shea Charles secured victory for Southampton, who capitalised on a below-par performance from the visitors.

Despite the setback, Arteta refused to criticise his players, instead challenging them to “look in the mirror” and raise their level. He insisted the team must accept responsibility, learn from the defeat, and push forward with determination.

Arsenal remain top of the Premier League, holding a nine-point lead over Manchester City, although their rivals have a game in hand. They are also still competing in the Champions League, keeping their hopes of silverware alive.

However, concerns are growing over Arsenal’s recent form, with defensive errors, injuries, and inconsistent performances threatening to derail their season. The team has now conceded several goals from individual mistakes, highlighting a dip in concentration at crucial moments.

Arteta also pointed to defensive lapses against long balls as a key issue in the defeat, describing it as “very strange” given his side’s usual solidity.

With a crucial run of fixtures ahead, including a decisive league clash against Manchester City and Champions League ties, Arsenal face a defining period in their campaign.
