The All Progressives Congress (APC) has launched a scathing attack on the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the opposition party as responsible for its ongoing internal crisis and political setbacks.

In a press statement issued in Abuja on April 2, the APC, through its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, accused the ADC of peddling “conspiracy theories” and attempting to deflect blame for its internal challenges.

The ruling party characterized the ADC as a “confused and desperate” political group, alleging that its current predicament was self-inflicted due to disregard for due process and internal party rules. It further claimed that the party’s leadership crisis worsened following the emergence of a faction led by David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola, whom it accused of unlawfully taking control of the party.

According to the APC, the decision by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to derecognize the factional leadership aligned with Mark was lawful and in compliance with a court judgment. The party maintained that the electoral body acted within its constitutional mandate and in line with democratic principles.

The statement dismissed claims by the ADC that the APC played a role in its crisis, describing such allegations as “escapist and irresponsible.” It insisted that the ADC must take full responsibility for what it termed a “self-inflicted” leadership dispute.

The APC also questioned the opposition party’s capacity to govern, arguing that a political platform unable to resolve its internal conflicts could not be trusted with national leadership.

Reaffirming its position, the ruling party stated that it remains focused on governance under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, emphasizing its commitment to delivering on its “Renewed Hope Agenda” and strengthening democratic institutions in the country.

The statement adds to the escalating war of words between both parties amid ongoing disputes over leadership and recognition within the ADC.
