Bayern Munich delivered a commanding performance to defeat Atalanta 6–1 in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League last-16 tie in Bergamo.

Michael Olise was the standout performer, contributing to the first three goals as the German champions raced into a 3–0 lead within the opening 25 minutes.

Josip Stanišić opened the scoring in the 12th minute after a quick corner from Olise created the chance. Olise doubled the lead with a curling effort in the 22nd minute before setting up Serge Gnabry, who chipped the goalkeeper to make it three.

Nicolas Jackson added the fourth early in the second half, before Olise scored again to continue his impressive display. Jamal Musiala made it six in the 67th minute to complete the rout.

Atalanta managed a late consolation through Mario Pašalić in stoppage time.

Bayern achieved the emphatic victory despite leaving star striker Harry Kane on the bench after his recent return from a calf injury.

The result extends Bayern’s unbeaten away run to nine matches and puts them firmly in control ahead of the second leg at the Allianz Arena on 18 March.
