A woman has been killed in a hit-and-run accident while on her way to church in Igando area of Lagos State.

The tragic incident occurred early Saturday, February 14, 2026, at the NYSC Bus Stop inward Igando, when a Mercedes-Benz C-300 reportedly struck the pedestrian.

According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the victim was lawfully using the designated pedestrian corridor when the vehicle, under circumstances yet to be determined, veered into her path.

In a statement by the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq, officials stationed in the Igando axis responded swiftly, secured the scene, and cordoned off the area to prevent secondary accidents. Traffic operatives also managed vehicular movement to ensure free flow and minimise disruption.

The statement described the driver’s conduct as “deeply reprehensible,” revealing that he fled the scene immediately after realising the gravity of the collision.

“The act of absconding not only compounds the tragedy but constitutes a violation of statutory and civic responsibilities required of motorists involved in traffic incidents,” the agency stated.

The vehicle was later recovered and evacuated from the road by LASTMA officials in collaboration with officers from the Igando Police Division, restoring order and normal traffic flow in the area.

In a heartbreaking development, news of the accident reached the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM), Igando branch, during service, where the deceased’s husband was already worshipping. He and other church members reportedly rushed to the scene and subsequently conveyed her remains for necessary rites.

Police authorities have commenced an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident and track down the fleeing driver. LASTMA noted that findings from the probe would guide appropriate legal action under relevant traffic and criminal laws.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, extended condolences to the bereaved family and the MFM Church community, assuring them of the agency’s commitment to safeguarding lives on Lagos roads.

He urged motorists to exercise caution, obey speed limits, and respect pedestrian rights at all times.
