Abuja — The Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced an investigation into bribery allegations against Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Emmanuel Aina, who heads the Legal Services Department of the Nigeria Police Force.

The decision follows a protest at the PSC headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, by members of the Centre for Human Rights and Advocacy in Africa Network (CHRAAN). The group accused AIG Aina of soliciting and receiving bribes from police officers and private individuals to influence postings and promotions within the Force.

They also alleged that he used his office to intimidate subordinates and obstruct internal investigations, submitting what they described as documented evidence of misconduct to the Commission.

PSC spokesperson, Ikechukwu Ani, confirmed that the Commission would review the petition and ensure justice for all parties involved.

According to Ani, “The Commission will continue to hold the Police accountable for its actions and inactions, while encouraging Nigerians to support efforts aimed at improving the institution.”

He added that the PSC’s whistle-blowing policy remains active, urging citizens to report any cases of corruption or abuse of office within the Police or its oversight activities.
