The Director-General of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, says no fewer than 123 million Nigerians have been captured in the National Identity database with their National Identity Numbers (NIN).

She disclosed this in Abuja on Tuesday during the 7th National Day of Identity held at the International Conference Centre.

According to her, 52 percent of Nigerians in the diaspora and 85 percent of inmates in correctional centres have also been enrolled. She noted that NIMC has upgraded its infrastructure nationwide and abroad, operating over 200 enrolment centres.

Coker-Odusote added that about 125 government agencies and institutions have now harmonised their databases with NIMC, while reforms have cut enrolment time by nearly half and eliminated extortion of applicants.

She dismissed concerns about the security of the NIMC system, insisting that its infrastructure meets global standards and remains “the most secure in the country.”
