The Tanzanian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Selestine Kakele, says the number of Nigerians visiting Zanzibar rose from 5,000 in 2023 to 7,000 in 2024.

Kakele revealed this on Tuesday in Lagos during the 21st Akwaaba African Travel Market. He described the steady growth as proof of Zanzibar’s appeal as a cultural and leisure hub, while also promoting other Tanzanian destinations such as the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Conservation Area, and Mount Kilimanjaro.

He also announced that Air Tanzania would begin direct flights from Dar es Salaam to Lagos on September 19, a move expected to ease travel and further boost tourism.

The envoy noted challenges such as high travel costs within Africa but assured that Tanzania was pursuing policies to make tourism more affordable and attractive.
