The Department of State Services (DSS) has filed a five-count criminal charge against politician and publisher Omoyele Sowore for allegedly making false and defamatory statements about President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on social media.

The case, filed before the Federal High Court in Abuja under charge number FHC/ABJ/CR/484/2025, also lists Meta (Facebook) and X Inc. as defendants.

According to the charge, Sowore allegedly used his official Facebook and X accounts in August 2025 to describe President Tinubu as a “criminal” and accused him of lying about corruption in Nigeria. The DSS said the posts were false, defamatory, and capable of inciting public disorder, in violation of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Amendment Act, 2024, and the Criminal Code Act.

Sowore, a former presidential candidate and publisher of Sahara Reporters, is expected to be arraigned in court soon.
