Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has joined well-wishers across the globe to celebrate award-winning Nigerian author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, on her birthday.
In a statement titled “Chimamanda: Celebrating a Literary Amazon”, Obi described Adichie as a “true literary giant” whose works have enriched global literature while uplifting humanity.
“Her life and work remind us that when nurtured with discipline and vision, talent becomes a light for the individual and all of society,” Obi said.
He praised Adichie’s contributions to storytelling, noting that her novels and literary workshops have inspired new generations to dream boldly, think critically, and use words as tools for truth and transformation.
Obi also highlighted her humility, recalling her visit to her alma mater where she reconnected with her teachers, including those from her primary school. According to him, this gesture reflected her deep sense of gratitude and respect for the foundations that shaped her journey.
“Her greatness is measured not merely by international acclaim, but also by the way she honours her roots,” he noted.
Describing Adichie as both “a sister and a beacon of inspiration to millions,” Obi prayed for God’s continued blessings upon her life. “May God continue to strengthen her, bless her in the years ahead with wisdom and joy, and make her light shine even brighter for Nigeria and the world,” he added.
Adichie, regarded as one of Africa’s most celebrated authors, has won numerous international awards for her works, including Half of a Yellow Sun, Purple Hibiscus, and Americanah.
