The Labour Party has issued a press statement welcoming the recent ruling by the Supreme Court, which upheld the appeal filed by Senator Nenadi Usman, while dismissing the cross-appeal from the Abure faction of the party. In a significant legal victory, the court declared Usman’s appeal as “meritorious,” solidifying her leadership position within the party.

While the ruling has been hailed as a victory for the rule of law and a pivotal moment in the party’s history, Senator Nenadi Usman, Chairman of the Labour Party Caretaker Committee, emphasized the need for unity and restraint. “This is not a time for triumphalism,” Usman stated, adding, “There is no victor and no vanquished. What matters most is our shared commitment to the ideals and aspirations of the Labour Party and the Nigerian people.”

The statement calls for all party members, supporters, and stakeholders to remain calm and focused, underscoring that the Labour Party is an indivisible family committed to justice, equity, and a people-centred governance model.

Senator Usman also reiterated the party’s dedication to creating a “New Nigeria”—a nation built on democratic principles and values that prioritize the welfare of the people.

“We must now come together, united in purpose and vision, to move the party forward,” Usman urged, reinforcing the Labour Party’s commitment to its mission.

The Labour Party’s leadership appears poised to continue its push for reform, urging its supporters to stay aligned with the democratic ideals that guide the movement. With the recent court ruling now behind them, the party looks forward to charting a path towards the realization of a New Nigeria.
