President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima attended Eid-El-Fitr prayers in Abuja on Sunday, March 30, 2025, alongside other officials including Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, and several ministers.
Eid-El-Fitr, a celebration marking the end of Ramadan, is a time of gratitude, charity, and communal unity. The prayers are followed by festive meals, gift exchanges, and a spirit of togetherness. A key aspect of the celebration is Zakat al Fitr, a mandatory charity that ensures everyone can participate, regardless of financial status.
The celebrations are culturally diverse, with variations in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia, but the underlying message of unity, gratitude, and compassion remains consistent.
Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states, including the UAE and Qatar, declared Sunday, March 30, as the first day of Eid. However, some countries, including Oman, Jordan, and Iran, will begin their celebrations on Monday after the crescent moon was not sighted.
In Nigeria, the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, declared Sunday as Eid al-Fitr after the moon was sighted in several regions. He wished the Muslim community blessings and urged them to pray for the nation’s peace and development.
