In a continued effort to strengthen national security and curb criminal activity, the Nigeria Police Force has intensified its proactive strategies, successfully arresting suspects and recovering vital exhibits in recent operations across the country.
This was revealed In a statement by Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer.
He said a notable case occurred on February 7, 2025, when officers from the Satellite Division of the Lagos State Police Command intercepted a 24-year-old suspect, Wisdom Obi, riding an unregistered motorcycle at the Abule Ado bus stop along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway in Amuwo Odofin. Upon searching the suspect, a concealed brownie pistol and 13 rounds of live ammunition were discovered inside an MP3 radio. Obi was immediately arrested and taken into custody, while the unregistered motorcycle and recovered items were documented as exhibits. Investigation into the matter is ongoing.
In a separate operation on the same day, officers from the Orile Iganmu Division apprehended four suspected traffic robbers—Kadir Ibrahim, Ifeanyin John, Oduwole Shola, and Rilwan Olajuwon—who were attempting to rob passengers of a broken-down vehicle at the Ascon White Sand area of Orile Iganmu. The suspects are now in police custody, with investigations underway. The police have urged citizens to be vigilant and cautious of traffic robbers, who often disguise themselves as innocent traders to prey on unsuspecting individuals in congested traffic.
Earlier, on February 5, 2025, the Ikoyi Division received reports of a violent confrontation at Falomo Square in Ikoyi. In the altercation, Okeke Johnchris, 33, allegedly rammed his Lexus saloon car into William Wisdom, also 33, following a heated argument. The impact left William severely injured, and despite being rushed to Gbagada General Hospital, he later succumbed to his injuries. A team of detectives responded promptly, and the deceased’s body was taken to the IDH Morgue in Yaba for an autopsy. Okeke has since been arrested and remains in custody as investigations proceed.
The Nigeria Police Force continues to urge citizens to avoid taking the law into their own hands and to seek legal redress for grievances, rather than resorting to violent confrontation. The police remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents and emphasize that violence is never a solution. The Force’s dedication to combating crime and maintaining public trust remains steadfast.
Adejobi reinforced the importance of citizens remaining vigilant and cooperating with law enforcement agencies in maintaining peace and security across the nation.
