Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Enaghe Obono Itam, has announced that operatives from the state’s police command, in collaboration with other security agencies, have killed over 100 criminals during operations under the code name Operation Udo Ga Achi.
The commissioner revealed that several criminal camps across various regions, including Ufuma, Eziowelle, Achalla, and Ogbaru, had been raided and destroyed during these operations.
Addressing a press conference at his office in Amawbia near Awka, CP Itam also showcased some of the criminals who had been captured alive.
“Our purpose today is to share significant successes recorded by the Anambra State Police Command in major security incidents in the state over the past period,” said CP Itam. “We have neutralized over one hundred notorious criminals and dismantled numerous criminal camps in areas like Ufuma, Eziowelle, Achalla, Ogbaru, and beyond.”
The commissioner also detailed the arrest of a key kidnap suspect, Chidiebere Nwosu, in Uruagu, Nnewi. Nwosu and some of his gang members were involved in an attack on police personnel from the Rapid Response Squad after the successful arrest of Nwosu on October 3, 2024.
CP Itam also addressed the tragic kidnapping and murder of Hon Justice Azuka, a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly. Hon Azuka was abducted on December 24, 2024, and found dead on February 6, 2025. CP Itam confirmed that all those involved in the crime have been apprehended.
“You may recall the brutal murder of Hon Justice Azuka, who represented Onitsha North Constituency 1 in the Anambra State House of Assembly,” the commissioner said. “He was abducted on December 24, 2024, in Onitsha, and his tragic death spurred the Command to intensify efforts in intelligence gathering and investigation.”
CP Itam continued, “On February 6, 2025, during an operation by the joint security team, which included police and Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG) operatives, the lifeless body of Hon Azuka was discovered at the 2nd Niger Bridge.”
Following the discovery, the team arrested nine suspects involved in the abduction and murder. During the operation, two pump-action rifles were recovered, and one of the suspects sustained a gunshot injury during a confrontation with police. The arrested suspects are: Ugochukwu Onuorah (30), Ikemefuna Ossai (20), Ikenna Orugu (27), Chibuike Obiefuna (19), Chinonso Olisa (19), Chinedu Okoli (21), David Ojini (25), and Peter Sunday (20), who is notably marked with a tattoo reading “No peace for the Government” across his chest.
The police continue their efforts to bring all criminals to justice and ensure the safety of Anambra State residents.
