The police have confirmed that no ransom was paid for the release of 20 medical students who were kidnapped in Benue State.
In a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, he clarified: “Contrary to some tweets and unconfirmed reports suggesting that money was paid, not a single kobo was handed over. The students were rescued through tactical and professional efforts.”
Details of the rescue operation, including whether any kidnappers were arrested or neutralized, have not yet been disclosed by the police.
A colleague of the kidnapped students revealed to our correspondent that the kidnappers had initially demanded a ransom of N50 million.
