The House of Representatives has initiated an investigation into Ikenga Ugochinyere, the representative for the Ideato federal constituency of Imo State.

During Thursday’s session, the House referred Ugochinyere to the committee on ethics and privileges concerning a recent visit he made to Governor Siminalayi Fubara for his one-year office anniversary.

The motion for the investigation was introduced by Yusuf Gagdi, a lawmaker from Plateau State, who claimed that his privilege as a member of the House was breached. Gagdi argued that Ugochinyere misrepresented the visit by suggesting that the legislators were acting on behalf of the entire House of Representatives. He further noted that after the visit, Ugochinyere issued a statement implying that the lawmakers represented the House.

It is noteworthy that in May, Ugochinyere led over 50 members of the House to attend Governor Fubara’s anniversary and thanksgiving service in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State.
