The Lagos State Police Command late Thursday night said it has arrested Balogun Olamilekan Eletu, popularly known as Sam Larry.
He was arrested by the police in alleged connection with the death of singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.
Mohbad died on 12 September in a mysterious manner prompting outcry from Nigerians for the police to unravel the mystery behind his death.
Singer Naira Marley and Sam Larry are on the lips of many Nigerians on social media allegedly linked to Mohbad’s death.
Naira Marley, who is abroad, had denied ever having a hand in Mohbad’s death.
However, the Lagos State Police Command late Thursday said Sam Larry is now in its custody.
Spokesman of the command, Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed that Sam Larry is in police custody and is currently assisting the police with the ongoing investigation.
Hundeyin tweeted: “Balogun Olamilekan Eletu aka Sam Larry is now in our custody. He is currently assisting with ongoing investigation.”
MohBad, was a Nigerian rapper, singer, and songwriter from Lagos. He was formerly signed to Naira Marley’s Marlian Records and left the label in 2022.
He was best known for his hit songs “Ponmo,” “Peace,” “Beast and Peace,” “Sorry”, “Feel Good,” and “KPK (Ko Por Ke)” (You Will Always Be Remembered) with Rexxie, which was nominated three times for The Headies awards 2022.
After two years, he announced his departure from Marlian Records. On 5 October 2022, MohBad accused his manager, singer Naira Marley, of assault and stated that his former boss ordered people to beat him up after he announced his intention to employ a different manager to handle his music and business affairs.
After MohBad’s death, it was reported that he had filed a police report in June 2023 alleging that Samson Erinfolami Balogun, a music promoter nicknamed “Sam Larry” and a known associate of Marley’s, had assaulted him and destroyed some of his property.
