The 2nd edition of Cycling Lagos, one of the biggest cycling competitions in Africa has been scheduled to hold between October 21 and 28, 2023.
The event which is expected to further promote cycling as a major sporting activity in the country was designed to encourage Nigerians to embrace the culture of riding bicycle in their various communities for its health benefits.
The 2nd Cycling Lagos event with the theme, Greener Ride is designed to promote a lifestyle that is environmentally friendly.
he competition is also aimed at championing healthy competition among corporate organisations as a way of promoting healthy lifestyle among corporate executives and Nigerians.
In a statement by Mr Bamidele Adeleye, Chief Executive Officer, BrandEscort Communications, organizer of the Cycling Lagos 2023 said the event will include; the Celebrity Race, Professional Challenge, Amateur Race, Corporate Contest and the children/ youth race.
“The children edition slated for October 21 at the Teslim Balogun Stadium will hold simultaneously with the Mini Tour Lagos, a promotional race designed to demonstrate readiness for the final race. The grand finale will hold on October 28. The event will end with a corporate Lagos dinner and awards in the evening of that same October 28, 2023,” he said.
According to him, “Corporate organisations through their participations are to encourage the general public to engage in cycling in their various communities for healthy living. Corporate representatives will compete for medals, it will provide a platform for talent discovery and grooming (Children and Youth Participation), and professionals will compete for various category of prizes.”
Adeleye noted that his organization is working with key stakeholders in the sector to stage a cycling competition that will meet international standard and further enhance its development in the country.
Chairman Cycling Lagos 2023, Mr Goddie Ofose urged corporate organizations to participate in the corporate race category of the competition to promote a lifestyle that is environmentally friendly.
“The theme for this year’s edition is Greener Ride. This is very important for us to drive conversations on the need to embrace a lifestyle that is environmentally friendly to save the planet earth,” Ofose said.
The grand finale of the maiden edition was held in Lagos on October 27, 2018 before the global pandemic (COVID-19), that led to a massive shutdown of businesses across the global. The 2018 event was supported by the Lagos State Government, DSTV, Leadway Assurance, Elizade Autoland, Seven Up Bottling Company, Eko Hotels and Suites, Access Bank, Simba Group and Cool FM.
