Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate and former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, has condemned the attack on St Francis Catholic Church, Owo, Ondo State on Sunday, by gunmen, describing it as cowardly and inhuman.

Obi who made the remark in reaction to the early morning attack on the church, condemned the unwarranted assault on innocent worshippers, adding that the action by the gunmen represented the worst form of bestiality against the society.

“There is no part of Nigeria that deserves to be attacked. But choosing a worship centre as the church for attack, does not demonstrate bravery. It is rather cowardly and inhuman.

“The Church and any other worship centre deserves respect. Whatever may be the reason for the attack and whatever message the perpetrators intended to send across, remains condemnable”, Obi stated in a release on Sunday.

He condoled with the families of those who lost their lives in the attack and expressed sympathy with others affected by the incident, one way or another.

“I express my sincere condolence and deep sympathy with families affected in the dastardly incident and pray that the good Lord grants them the grace to bear the loss of their loved ones. To others affected in various ways by injuries and other forms of inconveniences, I wish them quick recovery”, he stated.

Obi charged the government and security forces to fish out the brains behind the attack and ensure that they face the full wrath of the law.
