IGP Tasks Police Officers on Provision of Adequate Security

The Inspector General of Police (IG) Usman Alkali Baba has tasked officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force to redouble their effort in providing adequate security of lives and property to Nigerians and solicited the support and cooperation of the citizens to achieve the feat.

The IG gave the charged during a sensitization campaign on the Police Public Complaint Committee (PPCC) organised by the Ministry of Police Affairs for the North Central zone of the country held in Lokoja , Kogi state capital .

Usman Alkali Baba who was represented by the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) zone eight (8) Edeh Ayuba , said the Police Force is the creation of the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria saddled with the responsibility of protecting and providing adequate security for the people of the country.

According to him, the essence of the sensitization campaign is to enable the stakeholders interact with a view resolve area of difference that will enhance the productivity of the Police Officers in carry out their duties deligently without infringing on the right of the citizens.

He commended the Minister of Police Affairs Mohammed Maigari Dingyadi for creating a platform through which the sensitization campaign can effectively reached the stakeholders across the country.

The Inspector General of Police however lamented the recent mayhem unleashed on some police officers in some state, noting that the sensitization campaign programme will put an end to such attack.

He charged officers and men of the force to always discharge their duties within the ambient of the law in order to protect the image of the force.

The AIG who delivered the speech of the Inspector General of Police , said many Nigerians are ignorant of law, and appealed to them to acquaint themselves with necessary law in order not to be arrested by the police.

In his welcome address, Ibrahim Bello Director of Planning and Statistics who represented the Permanent Secretary Temitope Fashedemi. Described Police responsibility as enormous that required the support and cooperation of every citizens to enable them perform their duties creditably .

He charged the Police on transparency and accountability , assuring that the revamp of Police Public Complaints Committee which is dormice in the ministry of police affair will go a long to address issues that always cause misunderstanding between the public and the police officers on duty.

He noted that the sensitization campaign programme will create better understanding between the people and the police and thank the various stakeholders for attending the meeting.

Director Legal Services Ministry of Police Affairs, Barrister Bolarinwa Omoluabi, said the Police Public Complaint Committee was introduced to address issues that can jeopardize the duties of the police force sitting “End Sars saga as a typical example.

He said the PPCC will boost police service delivering in the areas of serving the public effectively and diligently as well as ensuring mutual cooperation between the police and Nigerian citizens.
