The founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide, also known as Winners’ Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo on Friday warned Nigerians, particularly the young ones, against excessive use of social media, saying such habits had destroyed the destinies of vibrant youths.

Speaking at the 15th Convocation ceremony of Covenant University, the renowned clergy charged the youths to kill the urge to spend more time on social media, noting that no one can get more out of life than what he or she put into it.

Oyedepo who is also Chancellor of the institution said, “No one arrives at a future he cannot see, neither does anyone arrives at a future he is not prepared for.

“This generation may lose their heroes to social media disaster. We must wake up from our slumber to deal with this monster.

“Today some professionals have classified social media addiction along with drug alcohol and sex. What a silent destroyer many are busy with today.

“The social media saga has eroded the substance of destiny of most youths today.

“That is supposed to be a plus has suddenly become a major minus because everything of value delivers through investment of time.

“Suddenly we are face with a generation on the wrong side of history.

“The honour of this generation has been wiped off, chatting all day with no time left to think, plan, programme and engage productively in the pursuit of any task.

“Many youths have wasted 10 to 20 percent of their time on these tasks per day. They can never match a generation that spends 70 to 80 percent of their time on their tasks.

“Today it is music on the go, music all the time, with their ears blocked for access to any other things of value.

“We must devise a means to put a check on free access to social media particularly those that are not adding value. Daily Independent.
