Fear grips Anambra Politicians after gunmen attacked Soludo

Palpable fear has gripped politicians in Anambra state after former Central Bank Governor(CBN), Prof Chukwuma Soludo was attacked on Wedmesday by armed men.

This is coming a month after the former CBN Governor declared his intention to run in the Anambra State governorship election come November 2021.

This was as Police in Anambra have confirmed gun attack which took place in his country home in Isuofia, Aguata in Anambra.

A politician and one of the governorship aspirants who spoke to Daily Review Online on the condition of anonymity,, said: “It is a dangerous game now to be an aspirant in this state. We are gradually returning to the days when a governor was kidnapped. Nobody is safe again. The election has not even started proper and we are witnessing this.

“If I tell you I am not afraid I will be telling you a lie. Nobody would want to lose his life because he wants to serve the state. I may have to reconsider my stand.”

Soludo, a governorship aspirant of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in the November 6, 2021 election, was said to be holding meeting with youths of town at Isuofia Civic Center in Aguata Local Government Area of the state when the gunmen stormed the place.

Tochukwu Ikenga, Public Relations Officer (PPRO), who confirmed the attack on Wednesday evening in Awka, said he was not sure of the killings.

“I can confirm that there was a gathering in Isuofia community where Prof. Soludo and other personalities gathered for a meeting on Wednesday, March 31, 2021.

“For now, we can only speak of the gun shots, but other details especially on whether there was causalities or not will be when we get more facts,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) Vice Presidential candidate in the 2019 presidential election, Peter Obi, has urged security agents to fish out those who attacked a former Central Bank Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, and killed three police orderlies attached to him.

Reacting to the attack, Obi, a former Governor of Anambra State said “political violence should have no place in the democratic process in Anambra State.”

He tweeted, “The reported attack on Prof Charles Soludo in which some security agents were killed stands condemned. Political violence should have no place in the democratic process in Anambra State. The Ballot and not the Bullet should determine the outcome of our elections.

“Meantime, security needs to be stepped up, and the culprits fished out and prosecuted to serve as deterrents to copycats.”
