Youths block police station with corpses, set it ablaze

Irrate youths of Ihitte/Uboma local government area of Imo state, on Tuesday blocked the road leading to Ihitte/Uboma police station and other areas, with corpses of siblings said to have been killed by suspected police officers.

This was after the angry youths burnt down the station, including some of the vehicles in the premises. To this extent, tension has soaked the area as rsidents flee for fear of being attacked by the irate youths.
When contacted, the Police Spokesperson in the state, Orlando Ikeokwu, confirmed the incident.

Ikeokwu said that policemen went for an arrest in the area but were attacked by the youths.

He also confirmed that two Policemen were injured and a suspect freed by the youths.

He said it was in a bid for the policemen who he said were in danger to protect and defend themselves, that a stray bullet hit one of the youths and he later died in a hospital.

Ikeokwu said that policemen had been deployed to the station, adding that the state Commissioner of police, Narisu Muhammed, had ordered an investigation into the arson and the manslaughter incident.
