Residents of Ota in Ogun State on Monday took to the streets, protesting the bad state of the roads in the area.
It would be recalled that in JuIy, Tunde Opeseitan, a journalist declared 30 days of activism to protest the bad condition of the roads.
In a protest message on his social media page, Opeseitan asked the federal and state governments to urgently fix the failed portions of the road.
He said it was utterly disturbing that such “an important” road which houses multi billion dollars industries and educational institutions, among others was abandoned and left to deteriorate to its present state.
Opeseitan called on Dapo Abiodun, governor of Ogun, to come up with palliative measures to make the road motorable, while a comprehensive repair is carried out soon.
Opeseitan said commuters are daily subjected to harrowing experiences due to the poor condition of the road.
“This is the present state of Oju-Ore-Ota-Atan Road in Ogun State. These pictures were taken today as I had an engagement in Atan. I was irked when I got to the front of Ogun State Hospital, Ota and decided to take the pictures to draw attention to the present situation of the road,” he said.
“Averagely, commuters spend at least three to four hours in the peak of traffic on the road, a journey that ordinarily should not last more than 15 minutes. Only God knows the number of precious souls that have been needlessly lost as a result of the bad state of the road, especially those who could not access timely medical care due to the condition of the road.
“The entire stretch of the road on both directions is in utterly deplorable state and riddled with craters and boreholes much bigger and deeper than potholes. This corridor houses multi billion dollars investment and several industries and educational institutions.”
