A newlywed couple has been killed on their way to their honeymoon after the bride reportedly fell asleep at the wheel.

Amy Moffat, 28, and 30-year-old Stephen Graham were on their way to Whistler, British Columbia, when their car veered off the road near Yakima in Washington state about 7.30pm on Sunday.

Quoting a report obtained by the Washington State Patrol, Yahoo News UK reports that Ms Moffat fell asleep at the wheel of the Ford F-150 truck before over correcting, causing it to roll.

Their close friend, Spencer Luczak, was driving behind the couple when the tragedy unfolded.

“When the truck went into its first roll, it lifted off the ground and was high enough where both the passenger and I had to look up through the windshield to see the truck above us, and then I slowed down just in time because it landed right in our path,” he told Fox 13 News.

“When I got to them, I knew right away they were gone.”

The pair, who were both wearing their seat belts, were pronounced dead at the scene

They had been married in an intimate ceremony among the mountains in their hometown of Utah on August 11.

“This weekend I felt like the luckiest girl in the world,” Ms Moffat wrote on Facebook days after she and Graham were wed.

“Beside a babbling summer creek, Stephen and I, in joyful disbelief, united our lives together and became husband and wife.”

Ms Moffat worked as a nutritional therapy practitioner, while Mr Graham was a photographer, videographer and editor for Deity Components, an outdoor and sporting goods company. The pair were both passionate about their downhill bike riding.

Ms Moffat’s heartbroken cousin, Aubree Bosen, said the family was able to take some solace knowing the pair were together.

“It’s really hard because you want so much for them, but I think the fact that they were together, and they were happy, and they were going on an adventure, it summarises their life together. I think they’re still on an adventure together and it’s just not what they planned,” she told Fox 13.
