The Governing Council of University of Ibadan has directed the University Bursar, Michael Alatise to pay verified earned academic allowances released by the Federal Government without further delay.

The Chairman of Council Nde Waklek who presided over the meeting alongside Vice Chancellor Professor Idowu Olayinka also constituted a three-man committee to decide on how the N105million belonging to the non-teaching staff will be shared.

The Council appeals to the striking workers to go back to work while negotiation continues at the National level between leaders of the Joint Action Congress and the Federal Government.

Recall that crisis broke out on University of Ibadan when non-teaching staff threatened and assaulted many academic staff over earned academic staff.

One student was injured in one of the attacks.

The federal government had disbursed the sum of N1.6billion for the payment of earned academic allowances as against N105million for non-teaching staff leading to protest by the non-teaching staff and shutting down of administrative activities.

The Council resolved that appropriate sanctions will be applied on staff who infringe on the extant guidelines and rules of the University, in respect of harassment of people and locking of gates during protests and strikes.
