No fewer than six persons, a pastor, (names withheld) and five others, that included three women, were arrested in Nkpor and Ogidi Communities, Idemili North Local Government Area, Anambra State, by the police from Asaba, Delta State Capital, for allegedly stealing 30 children.
The suspects who were picked on a tip-off in their various locations with the stolen under-aged children, were detained at Ogidi police station from where they were bundled into a waiting police van to Asaba.
It was gathered that the police team from Asaba spent two days in Anambra to arrest the suspects from their hideouts.
A woman, Mrs. Miracle Mbonu, who said that her 11 months old son, was stolen from their Eke Nkpor residence when she left him with her 9 years old daughter for market.
“That day a woman disguised herself as a friend and told my kids that I was her friend and that they should join her to look for me”, she hinted.
Crying profusely she said “as they joined her, she took them to New parts market and from there, she escaped with my son having deceived my daughter that she wanted to buy something for any son”.
Also another woman who pleaded anonymity said they stole her son at Ogidi and pleaded to the police to help her produce her son.
When contacted the Ogidi Divisional Police Officers, DPO, Mr. Hassan Musa said that the policemen who arrested the suspects came from Asaba adding that the policemen were not from Ogidi Police Division
