The Kaduna State PDP Youths for Shekarau 2019 has appealed to Nigerians to consider the choice of Malam Ibrahim Shekarau for president.
Rising from its meeting in Kaduna Friday, the group’s chairman, Hon. Rabi’u Hussaini said the call was necessary, particularly now that ‘there is still enough time for Nigerians to look inwards for a truly credible presidential candidate that will serve their overall interest.’
‘You’ll agree with me that sourcing for the right candidate for public offices is not an easy task, let alone for the president. We’ve seen moments when every Tom, Dick, and Harry saw themselves as fit for president, only to lose credibility as the elections advanced,’ he said.
‘But this isn’t the case now because Nigerians are more enlightened than ever to know who a credible candidate is,’ he added.
On the choice of Malam Shekarau as president, he said that it wasn’t easy to make, as the group had to embark on a series of consultations that eventually resulted in settling for him.
‘As the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has ceded the presidency to the North, we considered it worthwhile to contribute our quota to the daunting task of getting a reliable and patriotic candidate that will gain the overall approval of voters in 2019.
‘And that was what we exactly did by choosing Malam Ibrahim Shekarau. This is because he possesses the maturity, boldness, and experience of an ideal president, having being a career teacher, two-time governor of Kano State, and minister of education,’ he said.
On if Shekarau is capable of pulling the nation out of its lingering socio-economic predicament, the group posited that his eight-year experience as governor of a big commercial hub like Kano State had given him the exposure and insight into the crevices of international political economy, ‘so much so that we consider him prepared for the higher office of the president.’
