The Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU) has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase and heads of other security agencies in Nigeria over the recent massacre of the Indigenous People of Biafra(IPOB) and Movement for the actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) at Nkpor, last month.
ASATU, which is an umbrella body of all the presidents-General of the 177 communities in Anambra State condemned, in strong terms, the callous killing of the unarmed members of IPOB at Nkpor in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State and described such as the height of lawlessness and inhumanity.
Recall that over 50 persons were reportedly killed and scores injured on May 30th, 2016, during the celebration of 49 years of the declaration of the Sovereign State of Biafra by the Biafran warlord, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.
ASATU in press statement signed by its National president, Dr. Jude Okolo and National Secretary, Mr. Peter Nwagu and made available to Newsmen in Awka also urged the law enforcement Agency to consider without delay, the procurement and use of modern riot control devices, being used in other civilised countries to forestall future occurrence of such ugly incident.
“ASATU also calls on the entire Igbo community to remain calm and not to take laws into their hands or indulge in the destruction of public properties as it will continue to seek justice for the victims” it said.
