At least 5700 youths, drawn from the 20 Local Government Areas LGAs and 37 Local Council Development Areas, LCDA of Lagos State will be benefiting from the National Image Youth Empowerment, Leadership and Entrepreneurship Summit put together by National Image Magazine.
According to the organisers of the programme, one hundred youths aged between 18 years and 45 years will be selected from each of the council areas to benefit in the training and employment programme bothering on agric business, manufacturing, internet business, exporting and tourism.
In a brief interaction with journalists yesterday, programme coordinator, Mr. Seyi Bamigbade informed that the training programme was meant to lend a helping hand to the Lagos State Government as it strives to create jobs for the teeming unemployed youths in the state.
Bamigbade thanked Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for his support by making the youth centres available for the empowerment programme, even as he urged for more support from Governments, private organisations and well meaning Nigerians.
He also expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Ministry of Youths and Social Development for its support for the programme.
According to the organisers of the programme, the training will take place at the Lagos State Government Youth Centres in Epe and Ikeja between Monday June 13th – June 24th, 2016; while the grand finale of the event will include a lecture and accolade ceremony which will take place in Lagos by July 2016.
The project coordinator said though the programmes is initiated and fully funded by private initiatives; the group is impressed by the Lagos State Government’s effort at ensuring that unemployed youths in the state are empowered and given the right opportunities to stand on their own as self-employed individuals.
He also said there is no way the state government alone will be able make all the required jobs available, explaining that individuals and corporate organisations in private sectors need to come up with workable ideas that can ensure unemployed and under-employed youths are gainfully engaged.
