The gas explosion which occurred at the College of Health Sciences (CHS), Nnamdi Azikiwe university, Nnewi campus has claimed the life of one of the surviving victims, Uchenna Ogbu, a 500 Medical student of the university.
It will be recalled that last Tuesday, the fire incident which occurred in the student’s residential building, claimed the life of an intern, while three others were seriously injured.
The Gas explosion according to eye witnesses was said to have generated a loud noise.
The victims include a Radiography Intern who graduated from CHS Nnewi just last year, Uchenna popularly known as who contested in the last Nnamdi Azikiwe University Medical Students Association (NAUMSA) presidential Elections.
Also affected were “Paschalino” former DOG of NAUMSA and “Franklin” former PRO of the association. Their surnames could not be ascertained as at press time.
The radiography intern whose name was given as Williams Okoye Alfred did not survive the ugly incident. According to an eye witness who spoke on a condition of anonymity, “He died as a result of head on collision with the ground while trying to escape”. He was said to have jumped out in order to escape the fire but his leg got caught up with something and he
landed with his head”.
