Enugu Governor’s wife calls for collaborative effort to fight drug abuse

The wife of the Enugu State Governor, Mrs. Monica Ugwuanyi has called for intensive sensitization of youths on the dangers of drug abuse.

Mrs. Ugwuanyi made the call in a speech when she paid a courtesy call to the Commander, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Barr. Anthony Ohanyere in Enugu.

“Create awareness to our teeming youths in our schools about the consequences of illicit drug abuse and trafficking in the state”, she said.

She regretted that drug abuse has ruined many youths in the state that would have used their intellect properly to develop humanity.

Mrs. Ugwuanyi observed that there is a need to have a well expanded and refurbished centre for the agency in the state where the inmates have their recreation and are well taken care of.

The wife of the Enugu state governor promised to partner NDLEA to fight illicit drug abuse in the state.

Earlier in a welcome address, the Commander of the agency, Barr.Ohanyere affirmed that it is the duty of his agency to ensure protection of lives against the evil of drug abuse.

He called on the state government to rehabilitate NDLEA Centre in the state to avert the tragedy of able-bodied young men whose lives have been marred by drug abuse.

The commander observed that drugs have crashed many dreams and pursuits of many young men and women in the state.

He noted that to win the war against drug abuse , there should be drug awareness programme, counseling and rehabilitation of victims.

He added that Enugu State is becoming increasingly vulnerable to the scourge of the drug abuse.
