The wife of Enugu State Governor, Mrs. Monica Ugwuanyi has empowered unemployed youths, women and farmers to enhance socio-economic development in the state.

The 100 farmers drawn from the 17 local government councils of the state were trained in cassava multiplication, production and processing, improved rice production, modern day bees keeping and honey production and processing. Others are snail farming, fish production and processing.

The entrepreneurship/vocational training is anchored by federal
government in partnership with the office of the wife of the Enugu state governor.

The governor’s wife donated starter packs including fingerlings, snails as well as big plastic containers just as she donated unspecified amounts of money to the beneficiaries to enable them to take off.

Addressing the beneficiaries of the scheme at Cooperative College, Enugu, Mrs. Ugwuanyi charged them to make judicious use of the opportunity in line with the theme “Empowerment for Self Reliance and Increase Food Production.”

Mrs. Ugwuanyi noted that no nation can survive without adequate food production, adding that people are now gradually shifting attention to the agricultural sector since the fallen in the oil sector of the economy.

She expressed the hope that the empowerment scheme would arouse the passion of farmers towards greater height, as she looks forward to seeing Enugu State farmers exporting their agricultural produce to other countries of the world.

In a remark, the Provost of Federal College of Agriculture Ishiagu, Ebonyi State, Prof Justina Uzoma Mgbada affirmed that the gesture would improve the status of farmer’s socio-economic development.

According to Prof Mgbada, the credit of the exercise goes to Mrs. Ugwuanyi for her presence, interest and effort towards the welfare of employed youths, women and farmers in the state, urging the beneficiaries not to disappoint the office of the first lady.
