FRSC: No going back on Transportation Growth Initiative – Oyeyemi

The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Boboye Oyeyemi has restated the commitment of the FRSC to the Transportation Growth Initiative (TGI), saying that as the lead agency for road safety management and administration in the country, the Corps will continue to render necessary support for the growth and development of transportation system in the country. He stated this today while declaring open the meeting of the stakeholders of the Transportation Growth Initiative which was held at the FRSC National Headquarters Abuja.

According to Bisi Kazeem, Head, Media Relations and Strategy, FRSC Oyeyemi says the Corps will continue to play strategic roles for the realization of the goals of the TGI as it shares its vision. “That is why FRSC has continued to play supportive role right from its conception till date,” he stated

The Corps Marshal applauded the former Corps Marshal, Osita Chidoka for his pioneering role in setting up the organization, pointing out that the idea of Transportation Growth Initiative was conceived in 2011 following Nigeria’s participation at the 90th meeting of the Transportation Research Board which took place in Washington DC. The idea was to replicate same in Nigeria to provide advisory role with contents generated from research on transport engineering, operations, management, finance science and technology as well as legislation. “It is a vision which we must all work hard for its realization in the best interest of growth and development of transportation in Nigeria,” he stated.

Oyeyemi further stressed that towards the realization of the goals of the Initiative, FRSC has continued to render various support including the opening of a temporal secretariat within the FRSC National Headquarters building as well as provision of some basic furnishings like computer set, printer and file cabinet and deployment of a personnel that would ensure the day to day running of the secretariat. He called on other stakeholders to reciprocate the gestures and recommit themselves to the success of the ideals of the Initiative.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, who was also the former Minister of Aviation, Chief Osita Chidoka thanked the Corps Marshal for hosting the meeting. While commending him for the commitment he has shown towards the sustenance of the initiative, Chidoka assured that the stakeholders would not relent in their efforts for the attainment of the goals of the initiative.

Among stakeholders in attendance were representatives from relevant transport agencies including the academia.
