The Devil’s advocate

Here is Ebere Wabara invoking a curse on page 43 of the Sun Newspaper, Tuesday Sept 1st, 2015. ‘In line with karmic retributive dispensation of justice, the immediate past governor of Abia State….cannot escape punishment for his numerous atrocities….’
The good thing about curse is that when misapplied, it comes back to the sender. Wabara is definitely a waiting recipient for no sin goes unpunished.
Ebere Wabara has proven beyond reasonable doubt that he is the devil’s advocate. His sworn advocacy is to distort facts, insult, harass, embarrass and demean the person of Senator T A Orji. This odious job is not borne out of personal hatred or encounter, but have been proven to be endless and ceaseless revenge plot of his master who in his mind has relatively avowed thus: ‘since you have denied me governance by proxy in order to work for and impress the people, I will make you worthless and irrelevant in the eyes and mind of those people.’ Unfortunately, all these evil plots have hurtled off target.
His job of defamation is made easy by unlimited availability of newspaper space and fabricative plots which are made to look real by constant repetition in strict adherence to Hitler’s philosophy when he stated, ‘if you tell a big enough lie and tell it frequently enough, it will be believed.’
Sample some of the white lies and hideous plots. During the Aba phase of Late Odumegwu Ojukwu’s funeral rights, the man who has refused to be comforted after losing out in the state organized an unsuccessful attempt to embarrass Senator Orji, then the sitting Governor. From that date and after, the group that has proven to be the hotbed of lies, went to town with the story of the scene they created and columnist after columnist, throwing caution to the wind, wrote of the episode, rendering many versions, all of them invectives or tirades. Their intents were to belittle the Governor and so make him unpopular but they failed as the same man before the event and after came out victorious in electoral contests. What enraged them into various demeaning acts may have been his landslide victories in the mentioned electoral exercises in Abia and particularly in Aba, returning a solid twenty-four-member PDP dominated house of assembly as well sweeping the
federal legislative seats, not forgetting a by election that compensated Mrs Blessing Iheasinmuo, widow of a former legislator. Before this time, the widow was a housewife without any political experience. All these victories were recorded in spite of multiple hate messages and damaging rumour sustained against the state for months.
Wabara took Koos James to the cleaners. James’ offence was posting an article on THISDAY that straightened the facts and observing that OUK’s political structure was dismantled. If I may ask, could OUK have failed in two elections consecutively if his machinery were not demobilized as Koos argued.
In August, 23rd, 2014, business heavyweight, Arthur Eze was the guest of Chief T A Orji in a government function. While narrating his ordeals on the way from Okigwe to Umuhia, he decried the state of the federal roads, especially the Enugu PH Road. As he summarized, he praised the Gov for moving the government house out of the colonial relics and urged that the Gov should reach out to Federal Govt and FERMA, but Wabara and his people, a few days after twisted the speech and claimed it to be an indictment against Abia State. Since then, he hardly makes a script without refraining to the fabricative incidence, making lies to be reality. In truth, Eze is an individual who is entitled to his opinion. He is not a political oracle as to have sweeping following or national relevance where his word becomes law, but he never said what was credited to him by the Sun group. Spectacularly, in an event with over 20 reporters, no other publication quoted Arthur as
such.
Wabara and his group’s tactics concretely portray the Igbo aphorism of rustling the leaves in the bush and jumping out to ask who was doing so. Sometime ago, the same lie machinery released the rumor that Engr Chinedum Orji had encounters with the military and was beaten silly. This never happened but it was a serial in their mendacious pages.
Remember that two years ago, in a shameless false hype, the Sun flashed the story of Kalu’s readmittance into PDP. In this January 16, 2013, publication, they brandished a PDP card and registration number, 9787965. To sustain this hype on November 20, 2014, the Sun blazoned, ‘jubilation in the Southeast over PDP’s waiver to OUK. Wabara’s master was not welcome to the party neither did he run his second failed senatorial bid from the PDP platform. According to one Hilda Ifegwu in the National Ambassador and Insider Magazine, OUK should face trial for forging PDP papers. More so, for a medium that has fed more lies to the public, should they not be sanctioned before they smear the NUJ and proprietors of newspapers
One of their longest lasting false claims is that OUK donated 500 hundred millions to PDP at inception. Have we been made to know who this money was paid to? Is it Obasanjo, Gemade or Audu Ogbe? What was OUK’s financial rating in 1998 that warranted him to dole out such a whopping amount at that time? These are false claims made to walk tall and highly propagandized by the same group.
The one trending now is the FIFA presidency. This obvious kite flying is make-believe. Wabara in the same piece and page refereed to his master as FIFA potential president. Viewed properly, Wabara is mocking OUK because he propagated the reentry into PDP, shouted to whoever cared to listen about his popularity in the senatorial bid and all these came to naught, so who is being fooled. Paul Bassey, eminent sports commentator and administrator, Alhaji Sani Toro, equally authoritative in the sports arena, have all revealed the futility of such candidacy, establishing that Kalu is a FIFA outsider who cannot scale article 13 of FIFA electoral rules.
There are more examples and I do not have the ample space available to Ebere Wabara to get stupendously verbose. To some extent, he portrays himself as unstable saying one thing now and throwing up another like a desperate drug addict. With all these contradictions, Wabara has made himself only employable by the Sun because other media agencies will be afraid of the near blackmail and fictive style. Even in his Wordsworth columns in numerous newspapers where he plays the headmaster or the tempestuous English teacher, he has damned ethics and etiquette, bulldozing, shaking up more aggressively than one totting a gun in a stickup. He is known to have smuggled articles far in tandem with the corrective pages. He should be reminded that only the truth survives. According to General C H Grosvenor, ‘figures do not lie but liars will figure.’ Or rather, the words of Ally Carter, a contemporary writer, ‘it is an occupational hazard that anyone who spends
her learning to tell lies, eventually becomes bad at telling the truth.’
Wabara should be cautioned on the inherent dangers in his chosen acerbic and defaming onslaught. It is not Saddam Hussein and Khadafy alone that were dangerous with nuclear weapons. Wabara’s writings can exacerbate a nuclear war if practiced at the international level. As he has sworn to this money spinning Russian Rolette, let him remember Abram Lincoln, former president of America whose vituperations have long been proven right, ‘no man has a good enough memory to make a successful liar.’
Beyond rhetoric, lies and rejoinders, Chief T A Orji’s tenure is golden with landmark events. Without much fuss, economics and social indices on ground, many of them first time events are available. T A Orji cannot be the worst as Wabara has put in print. If I may ask, does Wabara come near oracular figures that came to Abia, confirmed and commissioned projects? Dr Adewunmi Adesina, now ADB boss and Dr Onyebuchi Chukwu, former Minister of Health in one of their official visits, former NUJ boss, Mohamed Garba and RATTAWO chieftain, Yemi Bamgbose after the eye-opening good governance tour of 2013, left favorable and verifiable words on the marble.
Lies are lies and truth is truth. For Wabara, time will tell! The Aesop story of crying wolf is enough warning to Ebere Wabara! The day he will tell the truth, none may believe him.
