The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, has asked Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, and his predecessor, Mr. Peter Obi, to end their feud in the interest of the state.

Specifically, the bishop enjoined both leaders to rein in their supporters on the social media, stressing that it was high time the social media war between the two leaders stopped.

He said silence by both leaders could be construed to mean a tacit approval by them for their supporters to continue the social media war.

The bishop, who stated this at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cathedral, Awka, on Sunday, urged both Obi and Obiano to speak against negative publications emanating from the camps of their supporters.

He said the ongoing media war between the two gentlemen was not edifying.

He said, “Let them not tell us that they are not aware of these social media reports. They should caution their supporters. They are not doing them any good. When you look at the type of falsehood these people peddle on the internet, you shudder.

“It’s so damaging and personally, I will not support it. Let them do something about it.

“We need peace which comes with unity. Though political differences are inevitable, it is only in peace that the majority will have richer lives,” the bishop counselled.

The bishop prayed for continued peace and development in the state in particular and Nigeria in general.

He also urged the citizens to have the fear of God.

Obiano and his predecessor parted ways barely three months after the 2013 governorship election in the state.

Obi was instrumental to the enthronement of the incumbent governor.

Obi later dumped the All Progressive Grand Alliance for the Peoples Democratic Party.
