Anti-corruption: Imo lauds organized Labour for support

Imo State Governor has commended Organised Labour for holding a nation-wide rally and throwing its weight behind All Progressives Congress led Federal Government under President Mohammadu Buhari in its campaign against corruption.

Imo Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere who represented Governor Okorocha stated this while addressing the “Organized Labour” during its rally at freedom square, Owerri, Imo state.

Prince Madumere reminded members of the organized labour that Governor Okorocha started the crusade against corruption at the inception of Rescue Mission Government to the extent it was enshrined into Imo State Anthem.

While stressing the need to nip corruption in the bud following its damaging effects in the socio-economic state of any society, he called on the organized labour to take the crusade to the rank and file of civil service and to the general work force.

The number two citizen of Imo State further explained that should corruption be curbed, it will in no little way conserve enough resources for the development of the State and the nation at large.

He also reminded the pro-anti-corruption crusade “Organized Labour”, the promise made by all Progressives Congress to bring about change in the polity, which has begun in earnest. Prince Madumere pointed out that it is because of the integrity of the President and his insistence that right things be done that elicited the improvement being experienced in various sectors of the economy including institutions that have begun to work.

He however used the forum to call on Imo workers to brace up with the realities in the economy of the nation, which has affected all the constituent parts of the country. He therefore advised them not to forget in a hurry the burden the Rescue Mission government has removed off their shoulders through various social policies. He said while the government is working tirelessly to ensure that the welfare of the workers and that its promise of industrializing Imo State is achieved, he clled for their understanding and support.

He therefore commended the organized labour for their resolve to join in an effort to rescue the nation, which President Buhari has vowed to stamp out by ensuring that everyone is made to understand the import of fighting it and its general negative impacts in the society.

Earlier while delivering an address of President of Nigeria Labour Congress, Ayuba Wabba, the Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Austin Chilakpo said the “Organized Labour” embarked on a rally with a view to showing her support for All Progressives Congress Anti-Corruption crusade, which President Buhari is on its vanguard.

The rally which witnessed a mammoth crowd who were carry placards with various inscriptions like; “let us unite to fight corruption, corruption is a killer, we support Buhari’s anti-corruption campaign, death penalty for corrupt officials to mention but a few.

While acknowledging that Governor Okorocha kick-started anti-corruption crusade in Imo State, Comrade Chilakpo outlined various ills corruption, which are prevention of the provision of social amenities, collapse of the power sector, lack of fund for investment, widens the gap between the rich and the poor and many more.

The well attended event came to a close with a vote of thanks by the Chairman of Trade Union Congress, Imo State Chapter, Comrade Paul Akalazu when he thanked the Deputy Governor for always identifying with the Labour and the labour for coming out en mass for the rally, which he believed has been registered in the psyche of Imo workers and other sectors of the State.
