Real Madrid won’t win any trophies this season, but Cristiano Ronaldo managed to set the best individual marks of his career on Saturday. In his team’s final La Liga match against Getafe, Ronaldo netted a hat trick, taking him to 61 goals in all competitions this season. That betters his total of 60 in the 2011-12 season, his previous career best.
His best of the bunch was a free kick, and he hasn’t scored too many of those lately.
Ronaldo’s 48 goals in La Liga were also a career best, giving him this year’s La Liga scoring title. He’s also going to win the European golden boot for his efforts. In the Champions League, Ronaldo is currently joint-top scorer, with Lionel Messi.
Since the two have to be compared constantly, Messi finished second in La Liga goals, with 43, and has 56 goals in all competitions with two games left to play. Messi’s all-time best La Liga tally is 50 goals, and his best-ever total in all competitions is 73. So well done, Cristiano, but Messi’s career best marks are currently looking untouchable.
