Bishop of Roman Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Mathew Kukah has condemned the rampant incidence of child voting in certain parts of Northern Nigeria during the presidential and governorship elections.
It would be recalled that several child voters were recorded exercising voting rights in clear breech of the electoral law which pegs the voting age at 18.
He said: ” It Was Worrying For Me Covering The Election, The Rate Of Child Voting i Saw Is Unfortunate.
“Child voting has been predominant in the northern part of the country. We can stop this by canceling election result from such Units.
“This issue is being encouraged by the politicians, electoral officials etc. Also when the parents of those child voters are punished they’ll stop their kid from such
“This is what election observation should put into record and must track it.”
