In recognition of her numerous efforts towards improving the members, the Holy Trinity Anglican Church of Umunuma, Okohia parish in isiala mbano local government area of Imo state has conferred the immediate past First lady of the state, Barrister Chioma Ohakim mni, with her first ever Golden mother award.
The epoch making event held at the church premises was part of activities to mark the 2015 Mothering Sunday of the parish which was celebrated in the Anglican Church denomination the world over.
Barrister Ohakim mni who is currently the chairman of the Nigerian Agricultural insurance corporation (NAIC) was honoured for her immense contribution to God’s work and humanity by her home Church parish.
Vicar of the parish, Revd. Chigozie Obi said many women are rising up to fill vacuums created by men in the society adding that many have risen up to cover their husband’s weaknesses.
He enjoined parents to strive and raise their children in the way of the Lord noting that many misfits in the society are products of homes where parents abdicated their responsibilities in the pursuit of financial gains.
He charged the women to use the season for introspection on how they have fared as wives and mothers.
Revd. Obi regretted that many women suffer avoidable ailments because they failed in their responsibilities years ago when they hesitated to rebuke their children when they misbehaved and could not instill discipline when they were younger.
He condemned men who restricted their wives from being active in Church matters.
He explained that despite Barrister Ohakim’s busy schedules, she has distinguished herself in commitment to God and her humanity.
He disclosed that the former First Lady and her family had undertaken huge projects for the Church and the members
He prayed God to reward her and other committed women of the parish adding that they should never be scared but be consoled that God is mindful of all their concerns whether material or financial.
On her part, Barrister Chioma Ohakim mni while receiving the award stated that the award is a special one noting that its like a sort of homecoming for her.
She pledged her unflinching commitment to God and humanity and expressed gratitude for the award which she said its a challenge to do more.
Dignitaries who graced the event include the state PDP woman Leader Lady Nkechi Mbonu; Imo State President of the National Council of Women Society (NCWS) Mrs Lois Osueke; Barrister Chidi Egeonu; Engr. Emma Ahamefule; PDP candidate for the Isiala Mbano state Assembly seat, Lady Joy Mbawuike amongst others.
